The Institute of Criminal Justice Studies (ICJS) was founded in 1992 and has since become one of the UK's leading centres for research in criminology, criminal justice and police studies. The University of Portsmouth are the largest university criminology department in the UK, and draw together expertise in a wide range of research areas such as criminological analysis, applied psychology, police governance and management, victimology, miscarriage of justice, youth justice, penology, risk, security and international and comparative criminal justice.

At the School of Law we are committed to a research strategy that underpins our teaching and builds on the research interests of our law staff. This in turn ensures that we can give high quality support to our undergraduate and postgraduate students when they engage in their legal research in areas including international and business law and clinical legal education.
