Start dates

Application deadline

Applications accepted all year round

Applications are invited for a self-funded, 3 year full-time or 6 year part-time PhD project.

The PhD will be based in the School of Computing and will be supervised by Dr Alice Good and Dr Tineke Fitch.

The work on this project will:

  • Review the barriers for senior m-Health users
  • Increase motivation in m-Health usage in older people
  • Develop a framework for improving user experience

Context

Older people are more likely to put a demand on health services. mHealth applications offers potential in managing long term conditions as well as improving health and well being.   These applications offer potential for reducing the demand on health services for this user group,  but there are challenges for older uses in the adoption of mHealth applications, compared to the younger population.  These challenges will not only include accessibility barriers in the form of visual, motor and cognitive functioning issues but also motivation.  Improved interventions are required to better support and motivate  this user group in using mHealth.
