Biography

Currently Course Leader for the MSc Human Resource Management and MSc Global Human Resource Management (Distance Learning) courses in the Faculty of Business and Law.

I had experience of working for several international companies and as a consultant before entering Higher Education in 2004, giving me management insight into the challenges faced by organisations as they respond to change and seek to improve performance. This influenced my approach to teaching and supervision of students, partcularly post-experience Pg students/managers.

I've always been an advocate of Work-Based Learning as a means of enabling individuals to learn and develop through experiential learning.  Drawing employers, universities and professional bodies together in Work-Based Learning partnerships to provide exciting learning and qualification opportunities with positive outcomes for all stakeholders.

As MBA Director in my previous role (2014-2022) I introduced the Level 7 Senior Leader Degree Apprenticeship at the University of Portsmouth as well as developing and delivering Executive and Global MBA courses.

I have been a module and programme external examiner to several UK universities.

I am particualrly interested in how organisations attempt to influence the behaviour of employees to achieve strategic outcomes, and the consequences of management interventions designed to do this.

I conceived and co-wrote a book titled: 'Contemporary Themes in Strategic People Management: A Case-Based Approach' published by Palgrave Macmillan - a collaboration of acdemics and management students at the University of Portsmouth.
