Summary

I am the Course Director of Undergraduate Law Programmes in Portsmouth Law School and a Principal Lecturer specialising in land law.

I have experience in teaching contract, tort and conveyancing. My research interests include land law, landlord and tenant law and housing law. I am particularly interested in socio-legal research in my chosen discipline.

I have written a textbook on landlord and tenant law.

Biography

Having studied law at Southampton University I qualified as a solicitor in 1996. For the next eight years I worked in North Africa and the Middle East teaching and training teachers.

In 2005 I returned to the UK and worked as a solicitor specialising in commercial real estate. 

In 2010 I joined the School of Environmental Design and Management at the University of Portsmouth teaching land law and landlord and tenant law. I also presented a number of RICS accredited CPD courses to surveyors on property related legal issues.

In 2017 I joined Portsmouth Law School to teach land law and contract law. I became Director of Undergraduate Law Programmes in 2018.

Research interests

I am interested in research relating to land law and landlord and tenant law from both socio-legal and comparative perspectives. My current research interests include:

  • Public versus private land use rights
  • Tenancies in the private rented sector
  • Landlord and tenant relationships with regard to repair

Teaching responsibilities

I currently teach land law but have prior experience of teaching landlord and tenant law, contract, tort and conveyancing.
