Summary

I am a lecturer on the BSc Social Work Course and am the Level 4 lead.  I am the module coordinator for Readiness for Learning and Practice, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Service User Inclusion and Co-production.

I coordinate our work around inclusion of people with lived experience of social work.  This includes facilitating the involvement of the Social Work Inclusion Group in our teaching design and delivery.  As part of this work I am involved in liasing with various community groups and stakeholders to ensure we are listening to their experiences of social work, enabling them to influence the education of Social Work students.

Before joining the University of Portsmouth I have held a variety of roles, with consistent focus on creating opportunities and spaces enabling people to have their voices heard.  I completed an MA in Restorative Justice in 2017 and am a trained restorative facilitator and trainer.

I have worked in various community facing roles.  I worked for 13 years with young people experiencing homelessness in South Africa and England, aiming to work in a restorative way with young people and their families.  I then moved into a role where I was working with community groups to enhance community cohesion to counter extremism.

I then moved into a workforce development role in the Local Authority where I worked with teams and managers to resolve conflict and embed restorative practice into their teams.  I was the ASYE coordinator and facilitated reflective practice and action learning sets with newly qualified social workers.

I continue to be involved in embedding restorative practice in my teaching and creating opportunities for people with lived experience of social work to be provided with opportunities to influence education and decision making around social work development.
