Nurses and Pharmacists are being asked to take on more roles and responsibilities to meet the changes in in primary healthcare delivery. Traditional GP roles are now increasingly being conducted by other healthcare professionals.

The management of minor illness is now often first conducted by nurses and pharmacists forming a vital triage role to the GP. Introduction of prescribing rights is also allowing nurses and pharmacists to increase their scope of practice. These extended roles require such practitioners to have good decision making skills to appropriately manage patients.

My book, Differential Diagnosis for Non-medical Prescribers, Nurses and Pharmacists: A Case-Based Approach, emphasizes the importance of clinical reasoning and decision making to support nurses and pharmacists in making sound decisions.

Additionally, the book covers topics that have traditionally not been covered in pharmacy textbooks. This is because these books concentrated on only symptoms that could be treated with over-the-counter medicines.

As a pharmacist myself with a background in community pharmacy I wanted to ensure that the future non-medical prescribing workforce have access to a relevant and meaningful resource that will equip them with a sound platform to embrace and adopt decision making skills to enhance their diagnostic abilities.

The book can be bought from places such as Amazon or direct online from the publisher Elsevier here.
