World Teachers’ Day 2024 theme

This year's World Teachers’ Day theme is all about recognising and appreciating teachers' voices and working towards a new social contract for education. It's a day to honour teachers globally and to emphasise the importance of listening to their experiences to overcome challenges and improve education for everyone.

Here at Portsmouth, we understand why it's important to inspire the next generation of learners and to help teachers use their voices and experiences to shape the future of education. If you’re passionate about making a difference and enjoy inspiring others, teaching might be the ideal career path for you. To become a teacher in the UK, you’ll need to complete an approved teacher training course, for example, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE course).

What is a PGCE?

A PGCE is typically a one-year course that provides training and qualifications for those looking to become teachers. Throughout the course, you'll take part in academic study and gain hands-on teaching experience. After completing your PGCE, you’ll be ready to apply for teaching positions in schools and other educational institutions.

At Portsmouth, we have a variety of study options available, including the option to study your PGCE part-time. We also have full-time and distance learning options so you can study in a way that works best for you.
