Up for Uni Day 2

Passionate lecturers and guest speakers inspired Jordan to pursue a Master’s and boost his career prospects.

3 minutes

I visited Portsmouth after hearing positive recommendations and chose to study BEng Civil Engineering here. When I started, I wasn’t planning to complete more than an undergraduate degree. But that all changed.

At Portsmouth, I’ve gained the motivation and confidence to excel in the civil engineering industry. So, I decided to take my qualifications further and excel now, instead of returning later in life to study.

Passion and reality

The coursework has all been based on real-world scenarios, which I feel makes the course at Portsmouth unique. I’ve benefited from the advice of lecturers and guest speakers, who are passionate about their field of work.

The University has helped me get to where I am now in a number of ways.

Support to fund study

In terms of funding my Master’s, I have a £3,000 tuition fee discount as a Portsmouth alumnus. I choose the option to pay my tuition fees in January and April, so I can save up.

I’m also working part time around my studies. The Careers and Employability Service supported me to improve my CV and secure that job.

A clear vision for what’s next

From here, I plan to land a role in industry. I’ll continue to progress in civil engineering until I reach chartership.
