Find out the five teams chosen to progress to the next stage of Design Competition for the University's new academic building
Following a strong response, a shortlist of five teams led by renowned architectural practices has been chosen to progress to the next stage of the RIBA International Design Competition for the new academic building on the Victoria Site.
The new building on the site of the former Victoria Swimming Baths will serve as a northern gateway to the University’s city centre campus and will bring together the Faculty of Business and Law with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The new building will also provide student support services, general administrative space and public space on the ground floor.
The five short-listed teams are:
- Allford Hall Monaghan Morris
- Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios
- Nicholas Hare Architects LLP
- Hawkins\Brown Design Ltd.
- Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners LLP
I am delighted with the very high quality of submissions that we received at the first stage of the competition which match our ambition to create a flagship building for our university and a landmark for our city. We were fortunate to have interest from many firms from around the world and through a robust selection process we were able to identify the top five submissions. I am looking forward to the next phase to see how our short-listed firms respond to our many and varied design challenges
The shortlisted teams will spend the next few months working up their design approach and there will be opportunities for staff, students and the public to view the final design concepts at an exhibition around the middle of October. A panel comprising senior University staff and a Governor will evaluate the design submissions at the end of October and select the successful multi-disciplinary design team.
The new building is part of the University’s ambitious £400 million Estate Masterplan to be delivered over the next 10 years, including a new indoor Sports Facility in Ravelin Park.
