As the main club partner of Portsmouth Football Club (PFC), the University of Portsmouth would like to congratulate the football club on such a successful and memorable season.
For the men’s team to win League One and for the women’s team to win the National League Southern Premier Division in the same year is a truly historic achievement, and as such this is a season that will live long in the memory of the city. And to do it all in a year when the club celebrates 125 years of Portsmouth Football Club feels especially fitting, and an incredible way to see in the next 125.
Professor Graham Galbraith, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Portsmouth, said: “On behalf of the University it gives me great pleasure to congratulate the football club as a whole, on such a successful season. The special position that the club holds within our community means that their success is the city’s success, and we are all so proud of the club’s achievements.
“The University is proud to have played a small part in this success, and to have witnessed first-hand the great work that has gone into these promotions across the club. From John Mousinho and Jay Sadler and their respective players, right across Pompey Health and Fitness, Fratton Park and Westleigh Park, it has felt like the culmination of a huge collective effort.”

Working together means the University and PFC help the community and each other in many different ways:
· The Portsmouth FC Scholarship champions one local student each year through three years of their degree with financial support and direct work experience with the club.
· We inspire young people to get into higher education by visiting colleges and schools together.
· Our students and academics work with Portsmouth FC staff and players on collaborative research projects.
· We share our facilities and knowledge with each other. For example the club uses University pitches for out-of-season training and also testing and dental facilities in the Science and Health Faculty.
· Hundreds of students have benefited from the partnership by working directly with the club, be that full-time or part-time paid roles, placement and post-grad positions or work experience within the football and business departments of the club.
