Artificial Intelligence and Data Science research
Exploring practical applications of AI and data science for solving business problems and societal challenges
AI and Data Science are rapidly advancing fields in the continually evolving research and innovation landscape of today's dynamic and data-driven world. These two intertwined disciplines have sparked a technological revolution that is reshaping the way we live, work, and interact.
Our research in AI and Data Science focuses on the development of computational paradigms, methods, and algorithms and their applications to a wide range of cross-disciplinary problem domains, including health and wellbeing, digital marketing and consumer behaviour prediction, robotics, cyber security and education.
The applied focus of our work means that we are very keen to explore partnerships with end users of technology to create lasting impact in the economy and society. Many of our research projects are carried out in collaboration with health care organisations, government departments, and industry, including Knowledge Transfer Partnerships.
Our research covers the following topics
- Computer vision and image processing
- Consumer behaviour prediction and digital marketing
- Deep learning
- Data visualisation
- Distributed and adversarial machine learning
- Education technologies
- Natural language processing
- Multi-tenancy databases
Methods and facilities
Our research makes use of a wide range of computational and analytical tools from classic AI algorithms to recent developments such as deep learning techniques. The School also benefits from state of the art facilities including:
