Yes, we welcome Clearing applications from international students and you can apply in exactly the same way as UK students do.

The majority of UK students apply through Clearing once they receive their A level / T level results in August 2024, so as an international student if you already have your exam results you can apply when Clearing opens.

Make sure that you have time to get your visa, funding, and English language certification sorted out before the beginning of term.

If you would like further information or guidance, please contact our international office for advice.

After we make you an offer we'll send you a confirmation email. This email will let you know what you need to do next and it will tell you what you need to provide us. In some instances we may ask you to send us copies of certificates or you may need to send us a portfolio.

If you've previously applied through UCAS you'll need to use your UCAS Hub to accept our offer by adding us as your Clearing choice.

If you're having issues, please contact us on +44 (0)23 9284 8090 or admissions@port.ac.uk

Careers and opportunities

As an engineering manager, you’ll be bringing leadership, teamwork and time management to your roles – skills that the Institute of Mechanical Engineering has said might be even more in demand in this complex industry than technical ability. Being able to deliver both elements makes you a compelling candidate for future jobs.

Your learning includes industry-focused activities, so you can show your ability to apply your knowledge to sector problems, and you’ll have built connections with  your lecturers and fellow students that expand your professional network.

You’ll also build the knowledge that could lead you to further study.

What you'll study

Year 1

You'll improve your decision making and learn to contribute effectively to the modern production environment. When you finish this module you'll be able to demonstrate your understanding of key Quality Management concepts, use a range of Quality Control tools, and analyse situations to evaluate quality systems.

You'll analyse supply chains for efficiency, resilience and responsiveness in this module, then create and optimise model supply chains using modern tools and techniques. You'll explore emerging technology, ethics and environmental concerns, and specialised supply chain methodologies from agile to fully-integrated.

In this module, you'll compare technologies, propose designs and improvements for existing systems, and learn to apply these for economic and ecological benefit. You'll tackle topics like quantitative analysis, reliability optimisation and structured design, developing your expertise in using traditional techniques and emerging developments to meet real-world manufacturing challenges.

Year 2

You'll explore the current thinking on managing organisational change, the role of the project manager, and accounting for commercial constraints. With your increased understanding, you'll analyse the needs of an industrial system, and create an implementation strategy to optimise it.

In this module, you'll apply strategies for waste minimization, materials selection optimisation, supply chain analysis, product life-cycle assessment, and more. Your studies will include the production of an eco-conscious improvement to an existing product or service, with awareness of economics, reliability targets, and stakeholder needs.

You'll engineer a solution to a problem by researching existing solutions, suggesting options; and devising, testing and evaluating one of your suggestions.
