An expert in transportation construction, with an international legacy of projects.
Born in Nicosia, Cyprus, Haro Bedelian built a highly successful international career in the field of transportation construction.
He has been involved in such major projects as the Spaghetti Interchange on the M6, Oxford Circus Station on the London Underground’s Victoria Line, the M25, the Channel Tunnel and the new Hong Kong Airport.
Haro has been Chief Executive and Director at several major construction companies, among them Balfour Beatty Limited, TML (the Channel Tunnel Contractor) and Connect Roads Ltd.
At the University of Portsmouth, Haro has been a visiting Professor of Civil Engineering and chaired the School of Civil Engineering Industrial Advisory Committee. Drawing from his broad expertise, he has presented papers on a wide range of subjects including several related to major projects he’s been involved with: M25 Geological Problems; Lessons to be learned from the Channel Tunnel; Business Development in International Construction.
A Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, Haro is an Honorary Fellow of St Catharine's College Cambridge and received an honorary doctorate from the University of Portsmouth in 1998.
Haro was a Vice President of the Institution of Civil Engineers and has recently ended a 16-year involvement in WFEO (World Federation of Engineering Organisations) as the UK representative.
He was awarded an OBE for services to UK transport in 1988 and a CBE for services to international trade in 2017.
