Entry requirements for students from Côte d'Ivoire
If you're joining us from Côte d'Ivoire, the entry requirements you need to meet will depend on the course you want to study.
We consider all applications we receive. However, to make sure you get the most out of your time studying with us and have the best chance of applying successfully, we recommend the following minimum qualifications:
Foundation courses
If you have completed the Diplome de Bachelier de l’Ensignement due Second Degre / Baccaluareat de l’Enseignement Secondaire, you'll need to do a foundation year before doing an undergraduate course such as a Bachelor's degree. We recommend you take a Foundation course at our associated college International College Portsmouth (ICP).
Undergraduate courses
If you want to enrol for an undergraduate degree, we will consider students who have taken GCE A-level examinations, International Baccalaureate, French Baccalaureate, Brevet de Technicien Supérieur (BTS) or Diplôme d’Etudes Universitiares Generales. Please see the course pages for specific entry requirements.
We are happy to consider strong and mature applicants for direct entry onto an undergraduate degree programme on a case by case basis.
For specific grades required, please refer to the course page.
A levels
- Please check your specific course page to find the exact number of points needed. Your A level grades should equal or exceed the total points required. You can use the UCAS Tariff Calculator to work out your total points.
- Some courses will require you to have studied specific subjects at A level. For example, to study a science course you will usually need to have achieved passing grades in scientific subjects at A level.
- A level points: A* = 56 A = 48 B = 40 C = 32 D = 24.
International Baccalaureate
- Most courses will require between 24 and 31 points in the International Baccalaureate (IB), depending on the degree you apply for.
French Baccalaureate
- If you have completed Baccalauréat Général with a score of 12.5/20 or higher, or the Option Internationale du Baccalauréat (OIB) with a score of 11.5/20 or higher, we'll consider you for admission onto an undergraduate course such as a Bachelor's degree. You must have studied relevant subjects and achieved strong grades.
If you have completed a Diplome d’Ingenieur, Maitrise at an accredited University in Cote d'Ivoire, you may be able to join an undergraduate course in Year Two or Year Three. We do consider qualifications from a range of sources. Contact us to find out more.
Postgraduate courses
For entry to our postgraduate Master's programmes, you'll usually need to have a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours or a Master's or a Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies (DEA) or a Diplôme d’Etudes Superieures Specialisees (DESS), awarded by a recognised university or an equivalent professional qualification approved by the University of Portsmouth.
You will need to have studied relevant subjects to be accepted onto many of our postgraduate courses. Some courses will also ask for work experience. Please see our full course list for more details.
If you have an Ordinary Bachelors Degree (without Honours), a Diplome d’Ingenieur, or Licence or do not meet the postgraduate entry requirements and there are no Top-Up entry options available for your chosen course, you may be accepted onto a pre-Master's programme at International College Portsmouth (ICP) for many of our courses.
PhDs
We'll consider you for a PhD if you have a good Master’s degree or Doctorat de Troisieme Cycle and submit a research proposal.
English language requirements
When you join us, it’s important that you can speak and understand English to the level that your course requires. You can see which tests we recognise and specific English language requirements will be on your chosen course page.
We accept iGCSE, O-Level and several other certificates such as IELTS, Pearson, TOEFL and Duolingo - but don’t worry if you're currently short of the standard required – we offer English Language Programmes that will get you to the necessary level.
