Deputy Vice-Chancellor
(Research and Innovation)
As DVC for Research and Innovation, Professor Kumar will focus on advancing the University’s research and innovation strategy, cultivating a culture of collaboration and ensuring the University’s leading-edge research delivers solutions to the world’s challenges.
Professor Kumar is joining us from Birmingham City University (BCU), where he was the Associate Dean for Research, Innovation, and Enterprise and a Professor of Operations and Supply Chain Management in the Faculty of Business, Law, and Social Sciences. He holds a PhD in Management Studies from the University of Exeter and a Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering from Ranchi University, India.
Prior to joining BCU, he was Director of Research and Scholarship at Bristol Business School, University of the West of England. His current research focuses on ‘Sustainable Supply Chains’, 'Digital Supply Chains', 'Operations Excellence', and 'Circular Economy'. He has published extensively in these areas, with over 300+ publications in high-impact international journals and conferences. He was named among the Highly Cited Researchers 2024 rankings compiled by Clarivate and also featured in the ELSEVIER and Stanford University's Top 2% Scientists list in 2024.
